The New Zealand Fiji Rugby League (NZFRL) Under 17 Team will take part in the ‘Tangitupou Challenge’ to be played in Suva, Fiji on September 20, 2012.
The Tournament, named after former Fiji National Rugby League (FNRL) Chairman, the late Illaisa Tangitupou, will see teams from clubs and secondary schools throughout Fiji, Australia and New Zealand vie for Rugby League supremacy.
FNRL selectors will be present to select an Under 20 side for the international fixtures scheduled for the end of the season.
NZFRL has been working hard to secure sponsorship and grants to aid the team to participate in the prestigious Tournament.
A Palau and BBQ fundraiser was held at the NZFRL office in Otahuhu on July 28.
The premise is also the home of South Seas Distributors Ltd. Dylan Datt, Managing Director of the Company, is also a member on the NZFRL Board.
The Team will play a match against the illustrious Papakura Sea Eagles Under 17- Team on August 6 at 2 pm.The event was a mammoth success with more than 400 plates sold to support the cause. Overwhelmed with the support, Team Manager Catherine Fisher said, “It was pleasing to see friends and families of the boys and the extended Fijian Community extending their support. This has been one of many fundraisers that the Team had organised over the last couple of months and we are grateful for the continued support.”
The Game will double as a final trial for the Team with the final 20-man squad due to be announced on August 18.
