A Workshop to discuss the challenges and issues concerning the wellbeing of ethnic communities will be held tomorrow, Saturday, August 24, 2018 in Auckland.
Auckland District Court Judge Dr Ajit Swaran Singh will be the Keynote speaker at the Workshop being organised by the Auckland City Multi-Ethnic Council Inc at the Otahuhu Community Hall located at 10 High Street in Otahuhu, Auckland.

Panel Discussion
President Gul Zaman said that the Programme will include a panel discussion on ‘Community Safety and Family Harm including Elder Abuse.’
“We will also have the benefit of the observations of Shireen Shah Drew, Professional Mediator, Facilitator and Coach, who will be the first speaker at the Workshop,” he said.
The panel will comprise Jennifer Janif, Senior Advisor, E Tu Whanau at the Social Development Ministry, Rob Stanton, Ethnic Liaison Officer, Auckland City District Police and Mehar Singh, Chairperson, Fijian Senior Citizens of New Zealand.

Mr Zaman said that Dr Ajit Swaran Singh became the First Fiji-born Indian to be appointed to the District Court bench in New Zealand in November 2002.
“He is a White Ribbon Ambassador and a recipient of the ‘Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award,’ given by the Indian government to People of Indian Origin. He is a regular speaker at ethnic conferences and community forums on family violence, child abuse, mental health, bullying and issues affecting migrant, Asian, South Asian and refugee communities,” Mr Zaman said.
About Shireen Shah Drew
He said that Shireen Shah Drew is a United Kingdom based professional mediator with experience and expertise in creating affirmative work and learning environment.
“An Arts graduate with Social Science as a major subject from the Manchester Polytechnic, and an Arts Postgraduate (Masters) with Conflict Resolution as the main subject from the Bradford University, Ms Drew has worked extensively in the United Kingdom and in other countries. She worked for ten years as an Employment Mediator at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment in New Zealand. She is now a freelance Mediator, Facilitator and Coach,” Mr Zaman said.
