Urdu takes centre stage at Forum

The beauty and creativity of Urdu will come alive at ‘Sham E Ghazal Kavi Sammelan Mushaira’ hosted by community friend Ghouse Majeed under the banner of the Urdu Hindi Cultural Association of New Zealand next weekend.

It will be held at the Fickling Convention Centre in Three Kings on Saturday, May 24 at 6 pm. Waikato University Associate Professor Dr Asad Mohsin will be the ‘Sadr-e-Mushaira’ (Chairperson), with National MP Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi, Professor Rais Alvi (Sahitya Academy Award winner from Pakistan) and Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand President Dr Anwar Ghani as Guests of Honour.

Farha Alvi will host the Mushaira section with Ataur Rahman Quraishi, Bal Madan, Brijinder Singh, Farhat Rana Malik, Shiv Bhagirath, Somnath Gupta, Suman Kapoor, Mr Hyderabadi and Tauqir Khan (Piyami).

The ‘Kavi Sammelan’ segment will be presented by Piyami with the participation of Bal Madan, Brijinder Singh, Mahindar Singh Chaddha, Sangat Singh, Shiv Bhagirath, Somnath Gupta and Suman Kapoor.

Sham-E-Ghazal will have Roopa Suchdev as the Master of Ceremonies, featuring Arvinder Vasudeva, Baljeet Kaur, Kanika Desh, Kiran Jeet Singh, Nisaar Mirza, Pankaj Arora, Prabh Saran Singh, Shobha Pathak and Yashi Yamini.
