The Dunedin Tamil Society and Canterbury Tamil Society will come together for a friendly T20 Cricket match in Timaru, which is halfway between Dunedin and Christchurch.
The match will be held on October 4, 2020 from 10 am to 6 pm.
Dunedin Tamil Society President Dr Niv Kamalendran said that the Association had previously conducted a similar Cricket Match with the Canterbury Tamil Society.
“This Cricket match is built on the concept that sport is a common interest in every community and that it can bring together teams from different cultures in the spirit of the game. Sports is not always about competition. It is also a chance to bring people closer,” he said.
Dr Kamalendran said that in addition to being able to play and view Cricket, such matches present an opportunity for the two Tamil communities to get-together, make connections and build friendships.
“This may pave the way for future collaborations between the two societies. It is likely to be a potluck/picnic event with games for children,” he said.
