Thirteen levels of fun for children and adults

Sourced Content (Edited)

Auckland audiences will have a chance to experience a stage adaptation of

‘The 13-Storey Treehouse,’ the best-selling children’s book by Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton, when it plays at the Bruce Mason Centre from April 18 to 22, 2017 as a part of its premiere touring season of New Zealand.

The adventure has been brought to life on stage by award-winning playwright Richard Tulloch (‘The Book of Everything,’ ‘Bananas in Pyjamas’) for children aged 6 to

12 and for adults

Who would not want to live in a treehouse? Especially a 13-Storey Treehouse that has everything, including a bowling alley, a secret underground laboratory, self-making

beds, a vegetable vaporiser and a marshmallow machine that shoots marshmallows into your mouth whenever you are hungry.

Nutty adventures

Andy and Terry live there, create stories together and have a series of completely nutty adventures.

They will bring those stories to the stage in their first play except that they forgot to write it! Where will they find flying cats, a mermaid, a sea monster, an invasion of monkeys, and a giant gorilla?

Luckily, they have some friends to help, a box of costumes and props, awesome technology and a truckload of imagination!

Under the artistic direction of Julian Louis (‘Standing Room Only,’ ‘Wilde Tales’), the all-New Zealand cast use physical theatre, puppetry and music to bring the much-loved book to life.

Cheerful and brisk

Audiences and critics alike have fallen in love with the show, with The Australian

describing it as a cheerful and brisk production that has the kids engaged and amused from the outset.

“The play has the same feeling as the book, which is all the fun of inventing things and creating them and then them going out of control.” Andy Griffiths, who has won over 50 children’s choice awards and been on the New York Times bestseller list, said.

There would be a lot of joy and fun.

Auckland Live is committed to offering a wide range of events and shows especially for families and young people.

Head of Programming and Presenter Services Bernie Haldane, said that she is delighted to bring such high profile, quality children’s theatre to Auckland over the April school holidays.

“Children love ‘The 13-Storey Treehouse’ Book, and we are thrilled that they will get an opportunity to see this hilarious story come to life on stage,” she said.

This is children-paced madness at its best!
