The Land of Ahimsa” is an award-winning documentary film, that follows Dolly Vyas-Ahuja’s journey to preserve her ancestral land that draws inspiration from the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi, particularly his principle of nonviolence or ahimsa.

The feature-length documentary has received several awards, including Best Documentary Feature at the London Film Festival and Best Documentary awards at the Hong Kong International Film Festival, the Boston Independent Film Festival, WRPN International Women’s Film Festival, and the Cineville Calcutta Global Cinefest.

Plot

The Land of Ahimsa explores the concept of ahimsa, which is central to the Dharmic religions of Buddhism, Hinduism, Jainism, and Sikhism. The film examines how the true meaning needs to be revisited. It delves into the mistreatment of animals, particularly in India’s dairy industry, and how this is connected to rising health problems, such as diabetes, and environmental issues, such as climate change.

The Documentary’s executive producers are Jerome Flynn (Game of Thrones) and Dr Sailesh Rao (Cowspiracy, What the Health, and Prayer for Compassion).

The Land of Ahimsa features notable individuals such as author and Advaita teacher Acharya Prashant; politician Maneka Gandhi; Philip Wollen, former vice president of Citibank; Keegan Kuhn (Cowspiracy, What the Health); Dr Neal Barnard, Founder of the Physicians Committee of Responsible Medicine and authors Dr Rupa Shah and Dr Will Tuttle.

The Land of Ahimsa explicates the positive impact that ahimsa can have. It offers a fresh perspective on social justice, animal rights, and environmental sustainability.
