Sports body ready for Fanca 2012

The New Zealand Sports Associations, an amalgam of a number of Muslim Sports Associations, is gearing itself to participate in the upcoming FANCA international tournament, President Sheikh Israr said.

He was unanimously re-elected to the post for the sixth year in succession at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Associations held at the Masjid Al Mustafa Mosque in Otahuhu on April 15, 2012.

The organisation was the winner in all the sports events of Fanca 2010 held in the US, including the Soccer Senior and Masters Divisions and the Tug of War.

“The new Committee is now ready to take part in Fanca 2012, which will be held from September 26 to 30 in Nadi Fiji. I am happy to see a number of new faces in the Committee,” he said.

Mr Israr, who was elected to the post of Vice-President of the Fiji Muslim Fanca in 2010, said that he was keen to take the Association into other sports arenas, in addition to soccer.

Among the other office-bearers elected at the AGM were
Vice-Presidents Nur Ahmad (Waikato), Faizal Nur (Mangere), Izaz Hussein (Avondale), Mohammed Shamil Jalil (Tauranga), Abdul Aiyaz Abbas (Hunters Corner), Secretary Mohammed Faruk Bhai (Dannemora), Assistant Secretary Mohammed Naushad (Mangere), Treasurer Rauf Khan (Wellington) and Assistant Treasurer Mohammed Faruk (Manurewa).

The Meeting also elected the following to the Executive Committee: Qais Husaein (Otahuhu), Mohammed Faiyaz (Western Heights), Faiyaz Khan (Manukau), Shiraz Ali (Papatoetoe), Imran Nabi (Manukau), Abdul Sahid (Mt Wellington), Movin Sharif (Lynnfield), Hassan Bhai (Dannemora), Haji Zaheed Tahir (Tauranga), Master Iqbal Hussein (Manurewa).
