Guests can expect the culmination of pedagogic innovation and artiste’s competence at a forthcoming Bharata Natyam Arangetram scheduled to be held in Auckland next month.
Fifteen-year-old Sumedha Hariswamy will present at first public solo performance on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at Dorothy Winstone Centre, Auckland Girls Grammar School.
Invitations to the Arangetram Ceremony, scheduled to commence at 5 pm with a Special Pooja, can be obtained from her parents Prabha or Hariswamy.

High proficiency
A student of Auckland based dance teacher, choreographer and performer Renuka Ketheesan, Sumedha since her migration with her family in September 2003, Sumedha is known for her devotion, dedication, commitment and a penchant for proficiency.
“Even as she walked into my home as a nine-year-old new migrant, I knew that I had a student who was serious about her objective of becoming a good dancer. Over the past 12 years, I have witnessed her interest in this ancient art grow into a passion, bringing with it discipline and a routine to seek excellence,” Ms Ketheesan said.
Significant milestone
She said that Sumedha’s Arangetram will mark a significant milestone in her own career as a dance teacher, as she would be her 15th student to present an Arangetram Recital.
“I am also happy to acknowledge that Sumedha has a perfect sense of rhythm and expression. Her calm and pleasant nature are impressive and she is quick in grasping nuances of this ancient art and render various movements with grace,” Ms Ketheesan said.
As well as presenting traditional Arangetram items such as Pushpanjali, Jateeswaram, Varnam and Thillana, Sumedha is expected to give vent to the innovative talent of her Guru, witnessed in previous concerts.
