Security accompanies innovative scheme

A company based on both sides of the Tasman is offering a gifts scheme with guaranteed security and cost effectiveness.

Gift Connects Limited (with offices in Sydney and Auckland) aims to enable customers to send pre-paid vouchers and cash remittances to their families, friends and associates in Fiji through an online purchase system.

Many Fijians migrating from their native country take with them innovative ideas, willingness to take risks, work hard and succeed in life.

Divesh Singh and Vivek Singh are among them.

Their collective experience gained in technology, management and financial systems working for large companies in Australia, New Zealand, India and Fiji gives them the confidence to succeed in their entrepreneurial venture.

Young entrepreneurs

Mr Divesh Singh (Managing Director) said that the gift system offered by his Company eliminates misuse of money and accrues more value on the gift vouchers, offering at least 50% reduction in cost on many items purchased at the participating companies.

He said that prior to the establishment of his Company in January 2013, there was no inexpensive avenue for Fijians living in Australia and New Zealand to send a token gift to their families and friends in Fiji.

“The cost of sending a small gift valued at $30 was high, discouraging people to abandon the idea. Gift Connects Pty Limited makes it possible to show people back home that you care for them. This is the cheapest way to deposit money into a bank account in Fiji. Donations to charity can also be made without incurring any additional charge,” he said.

He claimed that this is the first voucher service in the world to offer refunds if the customer is not happy with the service.

Sound credentials

Mr Singh comes from a well-known family in Ba, a City which has produced several successful businesspersons, apart from soccer players. His father Dijendra Singh is a former Mayor of Ba and was involved in the National Charter for Building a Better Fiji (Indian Newslink, September 1, 2009 issue).

He said that public response to Gift Connects has been enthusiastic, encouraged by which it will extend to Canada shortly.

“Gift Connects Limited is secured with SMS technology that is used to protect Internet Banking. We are also fully registered and regulated by the concerned authorities in Australia (Australian Transaction Reports & Analysis Centre), New Zealand (Financial Service Providers Register) and the Reserve Bank of Fiji,” Mr Singh said.

Impressive names

A number of prominent retailers in Fiji including Lords Jewellers, R B Patel Group, R C Manubhai & Co Limited, Courts Fiji Limited, Bhikabhai & Company Limited accept Gift Connects Vouchers.

“We are continuing to include more retailers in Fiji. We plan to extend to other South Pacific countries like Samoa and Tonga,” Mr Singh said.

“Our vision is to ensure that our customers get better value for their money and have better control over the funds they send by bringing 50% reduction in cost and by offering more options of how gift or money can be sent with less risk of the money being misused,” he added.

New capabilities

Mr Singh said that his Company was committed to building new capabilities in the money transfer and the payment industry, with exciting developments.

“Transferring money and controlling it will become better, easier and cheaper, he said.
