Patients and those accompanying them to East Side Family Doctors in the East Auckland suburb of Pakuranga will find Rekha Singh at once a Nurse, advisor and friend.
“In order to excel in health, people must understand that the impact of sedentary lifestyle and a diet that is heavily dependent on processed foods on our health. As a nurse, I am infatuated with the challenge of ‘high tech’ medicine and a pill to cure all ailments but nonetheless,” she said.
A graduate in Nursing from the Fiji School of Nursing, she obtained her masters in Advanced Nursing from the University of Auckland. Registered as a General and Obstetric Nurse, she worked at a number of hospitals in Fiji along with her doctor husband Dr Kulvant Singh in the Maternity Department, Accident & Emergencies and in Surgical Wards and later as a Public Health Nurse.
Rekha migrated to New Zealand in 1996 and worked at government-owned hospitals (mostly in surgical wards) in Wellington, Rotorua and Auckland.
When Dr Kulvant established his own private general practice in Pakuranga in 2003, she was the obvious choice in the Nursing section.
Combining her duties as a mother and her professional responsibilities, Rekha pursued advanced studies and obtained her postgraduate degree (Masters), specialising in chronic conditions last year.
She believes that people often overlook the ability of the human body to heal through nutritional excellence and exercise.
“My aim is to reach out to as many people who are willing to make a commitment for their own future,” she said.
