Auckland-based Shri Ram Mandir is organising an interfaith prayer meeting tomorrow at its Community Hall located at 11 Brick Street in Henderson.
The event will be held from 7.30 pm to 8.30 pm.
Managing Trustee Pravin Kumar said that the whole world is suffering from the effects of Covid-19 pandemic.
“People have lost their loved ones, some have lost their livelihood and source of income, some have sick families who are suffering and the list goes on. In difficult times like this, we as humans need to show compassion, love and care for others. The interfaith meeting tomorrow to harness the power of prayer,” he said.
Mr Kumar said that the meeting will feature religious leaders of different faiths to say a prayer in their own faith.
“Through these prayers we will seek blessings for those who are suffering and will remember those who may have passed on,” he said.
The Power of Prayer
Indian scriptures, including the Bhagavad Gita emphasise the Power of Prayer.
“True prayer is not mechanical recitation but the sincere cry of the contrite heart. When through prayer one receives even the first inclination of his revived association with Lord Krishna, one wants to call on Him constantly and remain in the soothing shelter of His protection. It is for this reason that Lord Krishna conscious spiritual masters recommend that we chant the Holy Names of God, especially the Hare Krishna mantra, as often as possible. The Hare Krishna mantra is itself a prayer invoking good fortune and petitioning the Lord, ‘O energy of God, O Supreme Lord, please engage me in Your service.’”
People of privilege
Claudene (Deane) Olivia of Unitarian Universalist Association said that Spirit of Life, Gods of many names, be in our hearts and minds as we come together to pray for our world.
“We come as people of privilege, grateful for this blessing, and hopeful for our future. Let us know that each of our own traditions comes today to lift our spirit in unity. Knowing that we are part of an interconnected web of life, let us acknowledge and embrace our oneness. We pray that we may be loving and able stewards of this world. We pray that we acknowledge our differences as we seek out our common ground, each of us working toward the good of all,” she said.
