A trained Dietitian and a Registered Health Professional with almost 25 years of community engagement would certainly know the pulse of the people and the power they have to seat and unseat anyone from top posts.
That is true of Nivedita Sharma Vij, a candidate for Howick Local Board, covering Botany, Flatbush, Ormiston and a contestant for the Counties Manukau Health Board.
Chance to succeed
“I believe in the power of people to transform their lives. A government or an authority or person does not dictate a person’s wellbeing, but if we truly believe in people and their capabilities and put wellbeing at the core of what we do, we will give every New Zealander the chance to succeed. That to me, is good government and good governance,” she said.
A Master Trainer from Stanford University with postgraduate qualification in Nutrition and Dietetics, Ms Vij has worked as Tamaki PHO Nutrition Consultant, Diabetes and Heart Health Educator, Lifestyle and Nutrition Tutor for Mangere Budgeting Services Trust and Diabetes Education Trainer at Auckland DHB.
She is currently employed as Lead Clinical Health Coach in CMDHB.
Building community partnerships
Ms Vij is a Justice of the Peace, Marriage Celebrant and Founder-Director of Muskaan Care Trust and believes in building partnership between ethnic communities and mainstream service providers.
“I am passionate about ensuring our diverse community is safer and more inclusive. I stand for a safer neighbourhood, careful spending of ratepayer money; greater accountability of Auckland Transport, improved parks, recreation and wellness facilities; and championing the preservation of Botany’s unique environment,” she said.
