New supermarket pursues traditional values

Meat and dairy products may be among the most advertised brands in the market but the importance of fruits and vegetables in the daily diet cannot be over-emphasised.

Get Fresh is known today as a ‘one-stop-shop’ for groceries, dairy products, fruits and vegetables, frozen food, cosmetics and a host of other items at prices that are low and affordable for the members of the Indian community.

Products are sourced directly from manufacturers, exporters and importers and elimination of middlemen enables the company to offer products at lower prices.

The opening of the new $3 million Get Fresh Supermarket at 99 Westney Road, Mangere, Auckland on Saturday, February 21, 2013 demonstrated the confidence that the company’s Managing Director Hussain Ali and his son Naushad have in the market, customers, suppliers and well-wishers.

Mr Ali, Managing Director of Maqere Export Company Limited in Fiji, has established a reputation for exporting fresh and frozen vegetables, root crops and seafood to New Zealand. The company has been growing from strength to strength and it is often said, rising demand follows good quality products.

Modest beginning

Following the advice of his younger brother Amzad Ali in New Zealand, Mr Ali decided to invest in business in this country.

He began his commercial venture in New Zealand with a grocery shop in Otahuhu.

Get Fresh Vege & Spice opened its doors to customers in 2007.

“The market was rife with fierce competition but with quality products, friendly service and affordable prices, the retail store began to grow, encouraging us to improve and expand. We soon purchased the neighbouring shop and increased our capacity. With a larger section for vegetables and fruits and bulk food, the retail store made further progress over the years,” he said.

Success is always the reward for hard work and quality products and services.

The Butchery

The company saw another opening in 2012, with ‘Get Fresh Meats & Seafood,’ the Get Fresh Butchery, located at 81 Station Road in Otahuhu.

“We do not sell beef or pork. We always focus on premium quality Halal meat and Fiji seafood such as Fish, prawns and crabs,” Mr Ali said.

Mr Ali has raised and trained his only son Naushad Ali well.

As the Director of the Get Fresh Group of Companies, Naushad manages the day-to-day activities and follows the traditions and values established by his father.

The new venture also shows their courage at a time when the New Zealand economy has had the serious effects of the financial virus that has been gripping most of the developed economies around the world.

Economists and planners were predicting doom and gloom, with many postponing or cancelling their expansion plans.

But Mr Ali and Naushad believe that quality will always have its patronage.

Tradition for quality

Mr Ali believes that people should live well with good food, promoting a higher standard of living and it is my pronounced objective to enable them to do so.

Get Fresh sources products from reliable sources and markets them for the benefit of a cross-section of the society. Specials at discounted prices on several items are announced from time to time.

Public response to the new outlet has been encouraging and is likely to become the busiest in the region.

Get Fresh supermarket is based on a strong foundation of principles, ethics and most important of all, service to the community, added to which is a unique culture that distinguishes the retailer in an area that is increasingly becoming competitive.
