Naad Trust and Rhythm School of Music are organising an evening of melody to pay homage to Zakir Hussain, one of the greatest Tabla maestros of our time, who recently passed away.
The event will be held on Sunday, December 29, 2024 at Naad Community Centre located at 39 East Tamaki Road, Papatoetoe, Auckland.
Manjit Singh, Principal of the School and a Trustee at Naad Trust said that the world continues to mourn the loss of Zakir Hussain, ‘our Ustad, and legendry Tabla player Zakir Hussain, who the Government of India decorated with the second highest civilian honour of Padma Vibhushan.
“He was an inspiration for millions and personally an idol for me and my family. I have been fortunate enough to know him personally and learn from him at Ustad Alla Rakha Institute in Mumbai. Ustad Ji’s family had chosen to keep his funeral at a very low key in San Francisco, and hence many of his students could not attend. But we are paying our homage through this small prayer meet and a musical tribute at Naad Community Center,” he said.
The homage will begin at 5 pm and those keen to attend are requested to text Mobile Number 021-595941.
Zakir Hussain passed away in San Francisco on December 16, 2024.
