The small but growing Nepalese community in New Zealand is putting together a daylong event that is expected to promote the country and its tourist attractions.
The programme will be held at the Mt Roskill War Memorial Hall located at 13 May Road on April 9 from 11 am.
Nepalese in general and the community in New Zealand in particular, are proud of their association with the expedition of the late Sir Edmund Hillary to Mount Everest in 1953 since their compatriot the late Tenzing Norgay Sherpa was the most significant member of the delegation.
Nepal Festival Organising Committee Coordinator Baburaja Maharjan said the forthcoming event aims to foster closer relationship between the people of Nepal and New Zealand through mutual goodwill and understanding.
“Nepal Festival 2011 will feature ancient classical dances, Sherpa dances, Newari dances and other Nepalese Folk dances to enrich multicultural New Zealand. The Festival will also feature special cuisines and crafts, traditional costumes and audiovisual presentation on tourism,” he said.
