Auckland, December 27, 2017
The Sixth Annual Edition of ‘Musical Journey,’ organised by Auckland Samaritan and community worker Nanthakumar Nadesan will be held at Auckland Normal Intermediate School, Mt Eden in Auckland on Saturday, February 24, 2018.
Mr Nadesan has been organising the programme since 2013 to promote young talent and to raise funds for the New Zealand Thirumurugan Temple.
Thus far, over the past five concerts, Mr Nanthakumar (‘Nantha’ to his friends) has donated $26,000, raised through sale of tickets and food.
As in the past, Musical Journey 2018 will feature his three daughters Geerthana, Divya and Manisha Nanthakumar and several other young and experienced artistes.
Details of the forthcoming programme will appear in the print and web editions of our January 15, 2018 issue.
The Strings 2017
The Fifth Musical Journey Concert was held on March 11, 2017 at Auckland Normal Intermediate School.
The first part of the Programme featured Vijay TV Super Singer unplugged string versions, where singers were supported by Violin, Guitar, Bass and Percussion.
The second part featured the newly formed 18-member ‘Auckland Strings Group,’ and hence the theme of the 2017 event was ‘The Strings.’
The Programme began with ‘Shri Ganeshaya Dheemahi,’ rendered on the violin by Geerthana, Divya and Manisha followed by ‘Hey Rama Rama’ from ‘Villu’ (a Tamil film released in 2009).
Super Tamil Hits
Anusha Suresh rendered ‘Munbe Vaa En Anbe Vaa’ from ‘Sillunu Oru Kadhal’ (2006) followed by talented singers Karthik Purushothaman who sang ‘Vizhiyile Malarnthathu’ (‘Bhuvana Oru Kelvikuri’ released in 1977) and Roma and Pooja Nory who rendered ‘Moongil Thottam’ (from ‘Kadal,’ a 2013 Tamil film).
‘Athan, Ennathan,’ was one of the most popular songs of 1961, the year of ‘Pava Manniuppu,’ the early ‘Pa’ series by A Bhim Singh. Vishanili Gunadas became an instant hit when she rendered this immortal song.
Vishnupriya Mallela sang ‘Putham Puthu Bhoomi Vendum’ (from ‘Thiruda Thiruda’ a Tamil film released in 1993) and ‘Kadhal Oviyam’ (from ‘Alaigal Oivathillai’ released in 1981), while Kaviya Balaraman captivated the audience with ‘Vaseegara’ (from ‘Minnale’ released in 2001).
Alexshana Sivarajah sang ‘Hargadi Badal’ (a popular song from ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’ reported to have had 18 million hits on the web- the film was released in 2003).
