Going around the world and promoting tourism are among the passions of Shaleen Khan, a Year 12 student at Newlands College in Wellington.
Born in Auckland but raised in the country’s capital city, she has imbibed Indo-Fijian culture from her mother and practical tips for a good life from her Aucklander father.
She says that tourism is yet another burning passion and that she aspires to become a flight attendant and travel around the world.
“I intend to gain qualifications (diploma) in civil aviation. I love people and interacting with them,” she said.
Shaleen was among the participants at the Miss Indianz beauty pageant held in Wellington on May 25, 2013 (Indian Newslink, June 1, 2013) at which she won the ‘Miss Beautiful Skin’ title.
“I was so excited that I would be happy to repeat the entire process. It is not the Title but the pleasure of being involved with people belonging to the same age group that mattered to me. I also love modelling and would consider a career in the beauty industry if I am accorded the right opportunity,” she said.
Shaleen said that her mother has been a source of inspiration and strength and that with her help, she has gained confidence.
“Confidence holds the key to success. If you are not confident and know who you are, you cannot get anywhere,” she said.
