Cultural plurality speaks universal language
“Dance is my life and passion,” says Natasha Bali, our Model of the Fortnight.
She recently established ‘Farhishtah Performers,’ a dance school to teach Indian Classical and Bollywood dances.
“I believe that music and dance belong to the ‘Universal Language,’ understood by all, regardless of age, culture, religion and income. My school therefore welcomes people from all ethnicities,” she said.
Natasha is currently involved in a dance show competition, learning a Latin American style, which she says is extremely challenging.
Born in Palmerston North, Natasha moved to Auckland with her family in 1995.
Completing her scholastic career at Pakuranga College and University of Auckland (Psychology), she is currently a part-time DJ at a local radio station.
Among the events in which she has participated include the Radio Tarana Fiji Festival, Radio Apna Live in Concert and Miss Indianz.
She regards her recent music video shooting session for Bollywood composer Bappi Lahiri as a highlight of her show business.
Natasha said people are her other passion.
“I am keen to understand people of different backgrounds, interact and communicate with them. I also try to help people in need,” she said, adding that she has just sponsored a child in Africa.
Badminton, Swimming, Cricket and Baking are among her hobbies.
“I believe in humility. Unwanted pride is not a part of my life and career. I also believe that success is gained through efforts, honesty and a pure heart,” she said.
