Model of the Fortnight

Many of us believe that two professions are the noblest – teaching, which moulds the character and personality of the younger generation, enabling them to grow as responsible citizens and future leaders and nursing that tends to every man, woman and child, regardless of their status, income or religious and social beliefs.

Our Model of the Fortnight, Shabana Yasmin Begum belongs to the latter. Apart from exuding vivacity that is inherent in the adjoining photographs, she fosters goodwill and understanding among every person she meets. She loves people for what they are, which makes her a welcome member of any team.

Born in Fiji in a well-meaning Muslim family, Shabana and her four siblings (two sisters and two brothers) dote over their mother.

“She is the darling of our family and we owe what we are to her tender care and affection; she nursed and educated us. Since our father passed on ten years ago, she is everything to us,” Shabana said.

Her spirit of goodwill and ability to understand the moods of people and adjust accordingly, qualify her not only to be a good nurse but also a responsible and loving (she is the eldest) sister to her siblings.

“I have always had an interest in modelling and ‘Model of the Fortnight’ is one my favourites in Indian Newslink. I am happy to be featured in New Zealand’s most popular Indian Newspaper,” she said.

Her other interests are cooking, dancing, travelling, and making new friends.

“I am a very romantic person but yet to find my Mr Right,” she said.

Her favourite quote of life is: Do what makes you happy; Be with who makes you smile; Laugh as much as you breathe; Love as long as you live.
