Matinee idols find their followers in Auckland

Excitement, spirit of unity and pride of achievement were the hallmarks of the ‘Desi Intermediate Dance Off 2013’ held at the Vodafone Event Centre on September 28.

Organised by Azhar Adam of Ace Talent Promotions, the event, fourth in an annual series, witnessed a parade of talent by students representing a number of schools and colleges in Auckland.

Azar commenced the proceedings with a tribute to his idol, Hindi film actor Hritik Roshan, supported by Desi Dancing Queen winners Karuna Tilani and Kajal Sharma.

That set the stage for the night for the participants from Intermediate Schools who danced with enthusiasm and passion.

‘Desi Intermediate Dance Off’ is becoming a multicultural event and this year’s programme was a combination of Bollywood, Haka, Hula, Meke and other Pacific Island styles.

High performers

The contesting schools took dance forms to a new level, with precision and energy.

Their colourful costumes, with high production value, would have done professional dancers proud. The audience cheered on their favourite teams with gusto.

Among the Guest Performances were Meri Bhaiz, winners of ‘Da Crew Challenge,’ a show organised earlier in the year by Ace Talent, Westlake High School, Papatoetoe High School and a Korean Hip Hop crew from North Shore.

Jagdish Punja and Leela Patel were among the singers, ably supported by Rahul.

The teams were followed by a mind-blowing performance by Tang Pearu, who sang Indian numbers such as ‘Tum Hi Ho’ and ‘Pani Da.’

Event Manager Famida Adam expressed her gratitude to the sponsors, participants, supporters and the audience for making the event successful.
