Maharaj Corporation named McDonald’s Franchisee of the Year

Maharaj Corporation, which owns and operates McDonald’s Restaurants in Royal Oak, St Lukes, Penrose, DressMart and Balmoral in Auckland, has been named ‘McDonald’s Franchisee of the Year.’

McDonald’s New Zealand Managing Director Patrick Wilson presented the Award to directors Sam and Angela Maharaj at a ceremony held in Auckland recently.

The citation said that Maharaj Corporation had ‘Consistently achieved high levels of customer satisfaction.’

The Award came hot on the heels of the announcement that Sam and Angela were to receive the prestigious ‘Golden Arch Award’ for the top 1% performing franchisees globally at the McDonald’s Worldwide Convention in Orlando this month in the presence of 13,000 people.

“They have fantastic people practices and consistently achieve some of the highest employee engagement scores in the business. Their willingness to trial new initiatives is inspiring.”

Sam and Angela are strong supporters of ‘Ronald McDonald House Charities,’ playing a leadership role on the Auckland house board, and their efforts through their restaurants and on a personal level are tireless.

Always striving to be a leader within their community, Sam and Angela won the ‘Business Excellence in Restaurant Trade’ category of the Indian Newslink Indian Business Awards 2011 and the Westfields ‘St Luke’s Top in Category Award,’ truly demonstrating the amount of effort, care and time they spend building their brand.

Sam and Angela are also active in improving the overall McDonald’s business in New Zealand through participation in a number of groups including the ‘Kiwi Leadership Team,’ ‘The Best Employer Team’ and ‘The Strategic Franchising Team.’

They further demonstrated their leadership and partnering role by making available their restaurants for new franchisee training and market trials.

Editor’s Note: Maharaj Corporation is Title Sponsor and Sponsor of the ‘Best Cricket Player of the Year’ category of the Indian Newslink Indian Sports Awards 2012.
