Devotees of Lord Krishna in New Zealand would join their counterparts worldwide to mark the birthday of their favourite God later this month.
The ‘Hare Krishnas’ of Auckland, comprising members of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKON) have begun preparations for the festival with piety and commitment typical of the organisation.
The Radha Giridhari Temple on Highway 28 would witness a beehive of activity on August 22 when Hindus drawn from a cross-section of the society representing perhaps as many nationalities as the world has, would congregate singing in praise of the playful Lord.
Traditional ceremonies, songs and colourful dramas and dances, Sankirtan (chanting of the Lord’s Holy Names) and a special vegetarian feast would be the order of the day.
The cultural programme in the evening will comprise the following:
1. Krsna fights Kaliya by the students of Hare Krishna School
2. Songs on Lord Krishna in English by kindergarten children
3. Bhajans by Amrita Singh, Bhairavi Sharma, Jalapa Jamwal, Jayashree Viswanathan, Jeevan Singh, Proshant Jamwal, Ritu Anand and Shikha Shethia
4. Odissi Dance (Dasavatara) by Chandra and Dristi Anand
5. Sitar recital by Lester Silver with Manjit Singh on the Tabla
6. Sarod by Satish Sharma with Manjit Singh on the Tabla
7. Violin by Survi Sharma, with Basant Madhur on the Tabla
8. Solo Tabla by Basant Madhur
The programme is open to all.
