Indians’ tribute to freedom fighters

Thousands of people who fought for the freedom of India will be remembered at the Independence Day Celebrations due to be held in Auckland on August 10, 2014.

Organised by Bhartiya Samaj Charitable Trust at the ASB Theatre, Aotea Centre, the programme will begin at 1030 am with a flag hoisting ceremony, followed by a formal opening in the auditorium.

The annual event usually includes a parade, speeches by leaders of political parties, and an entertainment programme, with the participation of music and dance schools.

Stalls dealing in food and other items run by private groups and individuals are a speciality of this Independence Day festivities.

Trust Chairman Jeet Suchdev said that one of the most interesting and special aspects of the Independence Day celebrations organised by his Organisation was the support and participation of several Indian community groups and organisations.

They include Auckland Indian Association, Bhartiya Samaj Charitable Trust, Manukau Indian Association, New Zealand Indian Central Association, Radio Humm FM, Roopa Aur Aap Charitable Trust, The South Trust and Waitakere Indian Association.
