Humanitarians raise $10,000 for Christchurch

A small group of Samaritans in Auckland has demonstrated the fact that determination and commitment can help achieve lofty goals.

‘Humanity First New Zealand,’ an organisation of like-minded people, undertook a Walkathon on April 9 to raise funds for the victims of the Earthquake in Christchurch. The group covered a total distance of 10 kilometers at the Barry Curtis Park in Manukau’s Flatbush.

Organisation Chairman Bashir Khan said the event raised $5000.

“We had earlier mobilised $5000 selling lunch packets at offices, washing cars and other events. We are now therefore able to offer $10,000 to the Christchurch Mayoral Fund,” he said.

According to Mr Khan, Humanity First is a charity organisation that donates all its proceeds to the designated charity.

Humanity First New Zealand was registered as a charity organisation in 2006. It is affiliated to Humanity First International, established in UK in 1995, with branches and affiliates in 34 countries across six continents.

“A majority of the aid workers and management are unpaid volunteers and therefore our administration expenses are negligible. Humanity First is therefore able to deliver significantly more aid value in the field from the funds raised,” Mr Khan said.
