An exhilarating celebration of Holi, the festival of colours is being planned in Hamilton on March 9, 2024, at the Whitiora School playground, for all Hamiltonians, ready to paint the town.

The organisers, Indian Cultural Society Waikato Inc. have invited everyone who wants to experience this unique and joyous festival, stating “Get ready to immerse yourself in a riot of colours, music, and joy as we mark the arrival of Autumn in the most vibrant way possible.”

About the Event

The event will bring together many aspects of the festival, and add a few unique touches to the celebrations. Visitors can take part in ‘Colour Blast’ and bring out their inner artist as they splash, throw, and spray an array of colours to celebrate the spirit of Holi.

A Live Music station and DJ will give a reason to dance to the beats of live music, which will keep the energy soaring throughout the event. A feast of traditional mouth-watering traditional Holi delicacies, from savoury snacks to sweet treats will also be available for the visitors.

Visitors can also capture the colourful moments with friends and family at the special vibrant photo booth, creating lasting memories to cherish.

A variety of fun-filled games and activities, suitable for all ages, are also being organised by the team, who want to ensure a memorable experience for all Hamiltonians celebrating together, as a community.

Juhjar Singh Randhawa, President of the Indian Cultural Society (Waikato)Inc. said, “ The love and tremendous response we received for our Diwali celebrations in November 2023 was unprecedented and it has definitely inspired us to deliver quality events for our community. However, we would not like to limit ourselves as a cultural organisation. We aim to deliver inclusive events, which can be enjoyed by all Hamilton and greater Waikato residents, and Holi was the perfect next event for us. With colours, water guns and a fun day out, we can guarantee a memorable experience for the entire community.”

What to Bring

Onsite organic colours will be available to purchase and we encourage the use of eco-friendly and non-toxic colours to minimise environmental impact and ensure the safety of participants.

To fully experience the joy of being splashed with vibrant colours, visitors are recommended to wear white apparel, and since the possibility of getting drenched in colours is guaranteed, so bringing a change of clothes and towels is advisable.

Mr Singh said, “ More importantly, we recommend everyone to come with an open heart and a playful spirit, ready to embrace the joyous atmosphere of the festivities.”

The organisers said that they will strictly adhere to all local health and safety guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all attendees. They said, “It is essential to celebrate Holi with respect for all participants and their boundaries. Consent is key, so please be mindful of others’ comfort levels during colour play.”
