New Zealanders with a penchant for vegetarian bakery products will find themselves transported to a higher level of quality and purity at the recently launched Shivani Bakery, a division of the fast-growing Shivani brand.
The Shivani brand gets loftier
While Shivani Restaurants in Auckland (Mt Roskill and Papatoetoe) and Hamilton are known for their wide choice of vegetarian dishes, the Bakery is a welcome addition. It will add to the Diwali snack-wrack at home and office from this year.
While the Shivani Restaurants is the creation of Shivani Arora, who is popular in business, community and social circles, the Shivani Bakery is the creation of her creation- her eldest child- Son Abhinav Arora, who is keen to put into practice the academic and practical knowledge that he gained in New Zealand, Europe and Singapore.
Shivani Bakery has had an interesting birth. Like most good things, it was necessitated by Abhinav’s hunger for a good breakfast.
How the Bakery began
“I relentlessly tried to find vegetarian food to add to the taste of my morning coffee during Navaratri. The disappointment encouraged me to find a solution because I became that there will be thousands of people in my predicament. The desire soon became a project and with the right things done at the right time with the right people, Shivani Bakery became a reality. The anxiety now is to maintain consistency in quality and supply and grow,” he said.
Having known Shivani and her husband Kuldip for more than 40 years (since our years in the Kingdom of Bahrain)- their children, Sons Abhinav and Pawan and daughter Sonam (who now lives in Tokyo, Japan with her husband and daughter) came later- I feel encouraged to believe that the Bakery brand will spread its flavour and endear itself to New Zealanders.
“Where? Why Not? How?”
These were some of the questions that Abhinav had to answer with the advice of his parents, decided to extend the already successful business in the food industry.
Shivani Bakery prides itself on preparing, supplying and retaining Eggless and Animal fat-free products.
Since its launch, customers, many of them with an endless taste for the unique package of bakery items, have taken to social media to express their experiences and feelings.
Nostalgia fulfilled
Their comments indicate that their nostalgia over treats is being fulfilled; treats such as Fruit Corn Biscuits (also known as Hyderabad Fruit Biscuits), Cream Rolls and Fruit Buns.
Shivani Bakery operates through the four branches of Shivani Restaurants.
Abhinav said that since the inception of the restaurant brand, the Arora family has been keen to create an instrumental ambience that would be influenced Indian architecture and awe-inspiring cultures.
“Our master chefs have a lot to offer you. If you are an avid aficionado of Indian delicacies, then it is time that you drop into Shivani Restaurant and perceive try and Bakery products as well. We are eager to serve you some of the lip-smacking meals, which we are sure will gain your acceptance,” he said.
Traditional ingredients
According to Abhinav, Shivani Bakery uses traditional herbs and spices affording the opulent aroma of the Indian subcontinent. Complimenting the quality preparations are the cordial staff ensuring quality time for customers, their family and friends.
“Our dishes are completely vegetarian and are available for in-house dining or takeaway. If you love desserts, Shivani Restaurants and Bakery offer an exotic variety of them. On special occasions such as Diwali, we prepare special items. Please ask us or visit our website. Our facilities at Mt Roskill and Papatoetoe are also available for private parties and functions. We build a positive environment of amity for you,” he said.

Tribute to the Aroras
Many years ago, Shivani Arora set high standards in culinary arts and service. It should be no surprise to see her passion continues to find reality throughout the brand.
She has always been dedicated to excellence and is clear about the level of quality required in the business. From a superette of which she was the owner many years ago to other entities (‘India Gate’ and Nando’s) she has demonstrated that a strong focus on marketing and sales, and good alignment in values with team are ingredients of success.
Her husband Kuldeep Arora has been a pillar of strength, support and understanding, guiding her through her ambitions with prudent management.
Abhinav Arora is proving to be the chip of the old block.
