Hamiltonians can expect a ‘grand treat’ to their ears and palate as an evening of music, poetry and Indian cuisine progresses at the Celebrating Age Centre on Victoria Street on May 22.
GOPIO Waikato and Indianz Global Women & Family Group is organising the programme called, Shaam-E-Awadh, partly in aid of the involvement of GOPIO New Zealand in the St John’s Ambulance Project.
President Suman Kapoor said artistes from Auckland (Arun Khotkar, Brijender Singh, Hemant Thaker, Shobha Pathak and Vivek Anturkar) and Hamilton (Beljit Kaur, B K Madan, Sharanpal Singh and Somnath Gupta) will participate in the programme.
“It will be a multi-lingual evening with Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Fijian Hindi and English usage, although the Mushaira (Poetry) segment will be predominantly in Urdu. It will be a delight for the entire family,” she said.
She said the programme will commence with Hindu prayers to Lord Ganesh, Goddess of Learning Saraswathi, followed by vegetarian dinner.
“The progamme of Ghazals by Shobha Pathak and Mushaira will follow,” she said.
Ms Kapoor said GOPIO New Zealand was committed to raising at least $12,000 for the St John’s Ambulance Project (see Indian Newslink, May 1). Raffle tickets purchased at $5 will go into a draw, to be held on June 12 in Auckland.
The prizes include a 50” Panasonic HD Plasma Television, I-Pad, a Mystery Weekend for Two, a Weekend for two persons with breakfast at a five-star hotel in Auckland and a dinner for four at an Indian Restaurant. A number of Auckland based commercial establishments have donated the prizes.
