Hamiltonian appointed Marriage Celebrant

With 55 years of married life, he and his wife not only make an ideal couple but also epitomise trust, confidence and mutual respect that matrimony brings to human lives.

It is also appropriate that Muttiah Paranthaman blesses bridal couples as a Marriage Celebrant, a post to which he was appointed on April 17, 2014 through an official Gazette notification issued by the Registrar General of Births, Deaths, Marriages and Citizenship.

A long-time resident of Hamilton, Mr Paranthaman has been serving the Waikato communities as a Justice of the Pace (JP) and Issuing Officer, in both of which he holds qualifications from the New Zealand Polytechnic.

Other interests

A former President of the Waikato Tamil Society, Mr Paranthaman is an active member of the Waikato Multicultural Council of which he has been Secretary and Vice-President. He is Member, Sri Lanka Friendship Society Waikato and a Trustee of Sri Balaji Temple Trust and the Phoenix House Charitable Trust.

Paranthaman and his wife Sushiladevi live with their daughter and her family in Hamilton. Their eldest son lives in Canada, while the youngest of the three is in Australia.

“As a JP, I have always made my services available free at any time of day or night to the people in the Waikato region and the New Zealand Police. I will continue to serve our communities as a Marriage Celebrant,” Mr Paranthaman said.
