The Goan community will conduct its Mass on October 20, and the Feast of Saint Francis Xavier on December 1.
Organised by GOANZ, an organisation of Goans in Auckland, the Mass will be held at the Carmelite Chapel in Hillsborough (636 Mt Albert Road) at 7 pm.
President Christopher Correa said that the Feast of Saint Francis Xavier would be the final event final event of GOANZ this year.
Francis Xavier, born Francisco de Jasso y Azpilicueta (April 7, 1506 to December 3, 1552) was a pioneering Roman Catholic missionary in the Kingdom of Navarre (now part of Spain) and Co-Founder of the Society of Jesus.
He was a student of Ignatius of Loyola and one of the first seven Jesuits dedicated at Montmartre in 1534.
He led an extensive mission into Asia, mainly in the Portuguese Empire of the time. He was influential in the spreading and upkeep of Catholicism in India.
He also ventured into Japan, Borneo, the Moluccas and other areas not visited by Christian missionaries.
