A Dubai-based organisation is seeking applications from creative photographers to compete in a prestigious international photographic competition.
The winner will qualify for the ‘Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA), which carries a cash award of US$ 120,000, stated to be the highest amount for a contest of its kind in the world.
With a number of other cash prizes, the amount would be US$ 389,000.
Launched by the Crown Prince of the Emirate of Dubai last year, the Award, which carries his name, has been structured to bring out the best in photography from lens-men and lens-women throughout the world.
‘Beauty of Light’ is the theme for the competition this year.
Applications for the competition would open on September 1 and close on December 31, 2012 (UAE time).
Like most other initiatives of this commercial hub of the Arab Gulf, the photo contest attracted widespread interest last year.
“The Award enjoys a social and legal stature as a tool for promoting Dubai’s vision of artistic and cultural excellence. Having attracted some of the world’s most talented photographers to take part in its debut season, the Award is set to build on the wealth of competitors,” spokesman Ziad Hosam Al Salama said.
As well as evincing global interest, the Award is expected to encourage citizens of Dubai to develop photography as their medium of expression.
