Free food packets for Indian passport holders in Auckland on April 15

And another for all at the Takanini Gurdwara today

The Wellington based Indian High Commission has announced that arrangements have been made for provision of free grocery packs for Indian passport holders on Wednesday, April 15, 2020 from 10 and 12 pm at the office its Honorary Consulate.

There are however procedures to follow.

A communication said, “If you are an Indian National, in dire emergency and are in need of essentials like food, the Indian High Commission in New Zealand is providing food packets as relief to the needy.”

Those who qualify should fill out a form from https://bit.ly/IndiaRelief including their passport and visa details and a sign a declaration and email to the address mentioned. Following the process of the application, the person will receive the time of collection from the office of the Honorary Consulate located at 133A Onehunga Mall Road, Onehunga, Auckland.

“Upon reaching the office, wait outside and call (09) 63666306 for someone to come and give out the bags one by one, thereby maintaining physical distancing rules,” the notification said.

Supreme Sikh Society of New Zealand

The Supreme Sikh Society of New Zealand is offering free food parcels today, Monday, April 13, 2020 between 4 pm and 6pm at Gurdwara Sri Kalgidhar Sahib located at 70 Takanini School Road, Takanini, South Auckland.

A notification said that the Supreme Sikh Society will serve all communities, to anyone, irrespective of caste, religion or gender.

“We advise people to arrive at Gate 1 and wait for their turn in their car. Our volunteer will ask you to open you car boot and will drop you food bag and ensure that it is locked. Thereafter, please drive out through Gate 2 as guided by our volunteers.”

The food bag consists of milk, bread, fruits and vegetable sufficient for a family of two persons up to four days, the notification added.

Auckland Council help

Auckland Council has set up a food distribution centre at Spark Arena at the request of the government to help people needing assistance due to the COVID-19 crisis and lockdown.

The government is meeting the cost of the food, while Auckland Council is operating the contact centre to respond to calls for help and coordinating the supply, packaging and delivery of food. Aucklanders who need to access the service can call the Auckland Emergency Management helpline on 0800-222296 between 7 am and 7 pm on all days of the week.
