Foreign students assured of ‘smooth transition’

Students completing their studies at Takapuna Grammar School in North Shore can be assured of ‘smooth transition’ to pursue higher education, in terms of an agreement signed recently with Massey University.

Massey University Vice-Chancellor Steve Maharey and Takapuna Grammar School Principal Simon Lamb signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which incorporates a ‘Foundation Studies Programme.’

The Agreement, signed in Massey’s Albany Campus on May 29, 2013, provides support to international students through a foundation year of academic studies.

As a part of the programme, lecturers from Massey will speak to students, encourage campus visits to explore study options and meet with academic staff and current students.

Mr Maharey described the pact as a ‘sign of maturity’ and that it would help international students from the School to study at Massey University.

“This collaboration is a great idea, and will help serve the North Shore area’s ambitions to become an international destination,” he said.

Attracting quality

Takapuna Grammar Board of Trustees Chair Mark McCall said the Agreement was “a fantastic opportunity and the result of work between both organisations.”

Mr Lamb said that it was important to forge connections on the North Shore.

“This Foundation Studies Programme will attract top quality international students with sustainable benefits for the area, as they transit to tertiary study,” he said.
