A football match will be held at Centre Park, Robertson Road, Mangere on Sunday, May 7, 2017 between 12 pm and 130 pm in memory of Shalvin Prasad (pictured), who was murdered on the night of January 30, 2013.
The Crime and Punishment
Police found the burning body of Shalvin on January 31, 2013 in a small patch of scrub in the side of a dead-end road, close to a largely deserted ground of the former Kingseat Psychiatric Hospital following a phone call from a member of the public around 630 am.
A jury found Shivneel Shahil Kumar (21) and Bryne Permal (22) guilty of murdering their friend and the High Court of Auckland sentenced them to life imprisonment on May 7, 2015.
Shalvin Prasad’s mother Shammi Prasad is now a Police employee.
The Event
Shammi has organised the football event this weekend in partnership with Counties Manukau MPES Team and the Cane Cutters Club members (New Zealand Police Staff from Fiji).
Constable Satvir Sen, District Liaison Officer at Counties Manukau Police, who is involved with the event said that Police and other agencies will promote safety messages within the community to hopefully prevent any further tragedies like this from reoccurring.
