Ethnic Councils honour community leaders

The Auckland Regional Ethnic Council (AREC) Inc and the New Zealand Federation of Multicultural Councils (NZFMC) Inc honoured a number of prominent persons from the Indian community at two separate meetings last month.

The AREC, at its Annual General Meeting held on July 19, conferred Life Membership on Cecil Lochan, Dinesh Tailor, Dr Jeromy Elkind, Shanti Patel and Thakor Parbhu.

The Meeting also elected officer-bearers for 2012.-2013. Among them were Mr Lochan (President), Mr Tailor (Vice-President), Leena Dhungana Gautam (Secretary), Meena Adhikari (Assistant Secretary), Parshotam Govind (Treasurer) and Mr Elkind (Auditor).

The NZFMC honoured Mr Lochan with the ‘Merit Award’ at its Annual General Meeting held in Upper Hutt on June 23.

A citation said that Mr Lochan has been serving diverse communities in New Zealand for the past 29 years.”

The Federation awarded Certificate of Appreciation to Stephen Goodman, a member of the Executive Committee of the AREC for his services to the community and Life membership to Ganges Singh, former AREC President.
