Education holds the key to success

A popular business consultant and coach has emphasised the importance of education to success in life and career.

Jasbinder Singh, Founder and Director of the Auckland based ‘SQ Coaching’ said that education provides a Vision, which in turn creates a Mission in life.

“Such a vision leads to clarity of thought, creates values and establishes a sense of purpose and objective, all of which are significant to achieve success. These are values that are vital for individuals and institutions,” she said.

Ms Singh was the guest speaker at a fundraising dinner organised by the Foundation for the Education of Needy Children (FENC) in Fiji Trust at the Grange Golf Club in the South Auckland suburb of Papatoetoe on June 16, 2012.

She said her parents inspired her to pursue higher education in New Zealand.

“My parents had the vision and strengthened my determination to succeed. In the initial years, I felt the pain of solitude but the dream of making it in life encouraged me to get ahead,” she said.

As well as helping individuals and organisations to create positive change and sustainable growth in the context of life-long learning by focusing on meaning and purpose, strong foundational values, clear direction and high levels of leadership engagement through SQ Consulting, Ms Singh is a senior coach at the Auckland University of Technology Centre for Innovative Leadership. She has worked as an individual and team coach for chairpersons of company boards, chief executives, and senior executives from both Australasia and overseas.

Her speech was relevant to the event, since FENC is involved in raising funds to education poor children in Fiji.

Trustees Sursen Singh and Shobhna Golian said that the organisation hoped to provide assistance to the ‘poorest of the poor’ in Fiji and generate about $120,000 every year to support at least 800 students requiring educational support.

“The Trust raised F$19,140 last year and the target this year is much higher. It costs about $F290 per annum to education a child in Fiji. Every dollar raised goes towards the cause, with all other costs of raising funds including administration absorbed by the Trustees personally,” they said.
