We are happy to announce that Dr Ashley Bloomfield, Director General of Health and Chief Executive at the Ministry of Health will be the Guest Speaker at the Eleventh Annual Indian Newslink Lecture.
The formal Black Tie Dinner event will be held on Monday, August 16, 2021 at Mahatma Gandhi Centre of the Auckland Indian Association, located at 145 New North Road, Eden Terrace, Auckland City from 6.30 pm to 9.30 pm.
Pandemic Challenges
The theme of the Lecture could be ‘Governance Challenges during a Pandemic,’ considering the sensitivity in securing and sharing information, risk assessment and management, coordination, logistics and communicating with the people throughout the country and stakeholders overseas. New Zealand has evolved its own model of governance to suit its geographic position, demographic situation and various other factors, which can become a future global guide.
Master of Ceremonies, other Speakers
National Party MP for Botany Christopher Luxon will be the Master of Ceremonies and India’s High Commissioner to New Zealand Muktesh Pardeshi will provide his views on the Lecture under ‘Reflections.’
Auckland Mayor Phil Goff will deliver the Welcome Address, while Diversity, Inclusion and Ethnic Communities Minister Priyanca Radhakrishnan will explain the objectives of the Indian Newslink Lecture relating it to principles of Good Governance.
About Dr Ashley Bloomfield
Since Covid-19 visited upon New Zealand with the first case confirmed on February 28, 2020, Dr Ashley Bloomfield has become a household name. His daily appearances on television with Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern for Covid-19 updates and other related announcements and information, created immense interest among millions of New Zealanders and others worldwide. His clear messages, and ability and willingness to answer questions from the media served to reassure people.
Born in Napier, Dr Bloomfield was one of three children of Allan Olaf Bloomfield and Myreine Alice Bloomfield, was raised in Tawa, a Wellington suburb and was educated at Scots College, where he was Head Prefect, Dux and Played 1st XV Rugby.
He graduated with a Bachelor degree each in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Auckland and following several years of clinical work specialised in Public Health Medicine, he took an assignment at the World Health Organisation in Geneva in 2011. He also held several leadership roles at the Health Ministry.
Dr Bloomfield was Chief Executive at Hutt Valley District Health Board from 2015 to 2018 before being appointed Director General of Health and Chief Executive at the Health Ministry.
Married to Libby, the couple have three children.
About Our Lecture Series
We launched the Indian Newslink Sir Anand Satyanand Lecture series in 2011 to promote Good Governance at all levels with Honesty, Integrity, Accountability and Transparency as the core principles. Several men and women of eminence, including the current Prime Minister, current and former Ministers, former Reserve Bank of New Zealand Governor, top government officials and champions of the private sector have been our ‘Lecturers.’ Our Masters of Ceremonies have also been Ministers and popular leaders in various fields.
Tickets to the forthcoming Lecture are classified into three categories: Platinum: $150 plus GST per person and $1500 plus GST for a table of ten persons. Gold: $75 plus GST per person and $750 plus GST for a table of ten persons. Bronze: $50 plus GST per person and $500 plus GST for a table of ten persons.
