Dance on the coolest outdoor dance floor!

Supplied Content

Auckland, April 15, 2017

Get your dancing shoes on and head to Aotea Square in Auckland’s Central Business District during the ongoing school holidays to dance up a storm at ‘Dance-O-Mat,’ the coolest interactive outdoor dance floor that’s free for everyone.

Movers and shakers will delight in the professional-standard sprung dance floor that comes alive when a personal music device is plugged in and loudspeakers, lights and a glitter ball switch on.

Spontaneous Dancing

Beautifully designed as an urban space to bring people together via spontaneous dancing, and installed in time for ‘New Zealand Dance Week,’ the Dance-O-Mat was originally developed by Gap Filler in post-quake Christchurch to make use of the newly vacant spaces in the city and respond to the loss of place to dance.

Since 2012, thousands of Cantabrians (and the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall!) have shimmied, strutted and shaken their stuff on the dancefloor, where no skill or experience is required.

Dance-O-Mat is an Auckland Live Experience.

Annual Event

New Zealand Dance Week (NZDW) is an annual event organised by DANZ to elevate the presence of dance in New Zealand.

The aim of this event is to get New Zealand dancing and highlight the value and joy the art-form can bring our society. This is an opportunity to celebrate the talents of our local dancers and choreographers and for our communities to be introduced and engaged in the beautiful world of dance.

There is a multitude of ways to get involved in NZDW, every action counts; no matter how big or small.
