Cultural learning for children on the Shore

Residents of North Shore and neighbouring areas now have an opportunity to let their children learn about Indian culture and heritage.

Indian Kids Klub, which opened recently, aims to promote values among the younger members of the society.

Founders Sarb Lester and Shradha Williams described it as a place ‘where children learn about their Indian heritage with fun and interaction.’

“The concept is based on the fact that children retain more information if presented in an environment of love and affection and in a format they enjoy. As well as learning about Indian culture, traditions, customs, attire, festivals and conversational Hindi, they get an opportunity to make new friends,” they said.

According to Ms Lester, there was a gap for preschoolers from learning and developing valuable links with their rich Indian heritage.

Ms Williams said many young families did not have the benefit of elders or an extended family and many do not belong to social networks to help them maintain their links with India and provide a link for their children.

“This Club aims to fill such a gap,” she said.

Children below five years of age can enrol at the Club, which functions on the first and third Saturday of every month at the Bays Community Centre, 2 Glen Road, Browns Bay from 230 pm to 330 pm.
