Auckland, December 20, 2021

Auckland based Malaysian researcher Dr Vickneswaran M Veloo believes that ‘Nexus Air Disinfection’ technology using UV-C developed in Malaysia (NX-UVC Shield) is safe for humans but lethal for viruses.

This could be a game-changer to mitigate the spread of airborne Covid-19 virus and other pathogens for better air quality.

Dr Vickneswaran is closely involved in the research of nanotechnology harnessing the potential of sound and light waves for many industries, in particular the medical industry.

Armed with a PhD in Chemical and Biomedical Engineering from the Institute of Biomedical Technologies, Auckland University of Technology (AUT), he is the Chief Technology Officer of the Nexus Venture group.

Destroying the Virus

Together with a team of local Malaysian technologists, Dr Vickneswaran developed a unique proprietary system that kills the Corona Virus fast and safe.

The research was conducted in collaboration with University Malaya’s Medical Faculty led by Dr Tee Kok Keng and Associate Professor Dr Ong Kien Chai.

The technology is fully developed and is used in manufacturing by Nexus in Malaysia. It has also been successfully deployed in various applications such as air sterilisation of the HVAC system in manufacturing facilities, medical clinics, elevators, community halls and offices.

Potential for wider applications

Dr Vickneswaran believes that the technology has high potential to be deployed for many other applications including public transport and schools.

He hoped to showcase the system in New Zealand with the assistance of the Auckland based New Zealand Malaysian Business Association (NZMBA) President and Senior Tax Counsel Dave Ananth and Chairman, Consul Group of Companies and Managing Partner, Stace Hammond Lawyers Patrick Wilson.

Mr Ananth said that New Zealand has a lower incidence of Covid compared to the rest of the world and hence is a good place to test.

“Dr Vickneswaran (Vick, as he is commonly known) has sent us some paperwork which will be reviewed before we invite local players to test. He is also looking at Australia and the Pacific while discharging his social responsibility and helping communities. It is not all about profits. He has successfully installed the machines in some Churches in Malaysia,” he said.

About the Technology

The NX-UVC Shield Technology, developed by Nexus and certified by the Malaysian Nuclear Agency, uses lamps with special emitters of continuous targeted doses of ultraviolet light wavelengths, which can kill viruses and bacteria in a matter of seconds, as a standalone device without any intervention or exposure to humans.

The success of its implementation relies on the proprietary system that has been designed to provide automated, both standalone and real-time air sterilisation, for a continuous air quality monitoring system. Improving air quality helps stop the spread of viruses, in line with the suggestions and recommendations from industry experts, government and safety authorities locally and internationally.
