Community worker for Community post

Community Worker- Ram Rai.jpgIndian Newslink columnist and outspoken community worker Ram Rai would be contesting for a post at the Puketapapa Local Board in the forthcoming local body elections.

Puketapapa is a Maori name for Mt Roskill and covers the suburbs of Hillsborough, Lynfield, Mt Roskill, Three Kings, Waikowhai and Wesley. According to a 2009 estimate, the total population of this area was 56,100, of which about 13% belonged to the Indian community.

With 28 years experience in corporate and business management, Mr Rai understands the needs of the people.

He is a strong advocate of a progressive community, enjoying affordable Rates, quality public transport and easily accessible public health.

“I would never compromise on issues such as the need for greater transparency, minimising costs and enhancing efficiency and placing an eternal curb on wasteful expenditure. A strong local representation is essential to achieve these objectives and I hope to be a part of the team that would make Auckland a better City,” he said.

Voting for Council elections and the Mayor of Auckland will be held by post from September 17 to October 9.
