With just about a fortnight left for the Gala Black Tie Dinner and Presentation Ceremony, the Indian Newslink Indian Business Awards 2012 has entered an exciting phase with sale of tickets reaching a high pitch.
About 800 top executives of multinational and national companies, businesses, entrepreneurs, professionals and others are expected to attend the event, which will be held at the Sky City Convention Centre on Monday, November 19, 2012.
The event will commence with cocktails, canapés and networking at 5 pm at the Promenade and the Marlborough Rooms, where an exhibition of Sponsors and their products and services will be held, with some of them expected to announce specials.
Dinner, entertainment, speeches and Awards presentation will be held at the New Zealand Rooms from 630 pm.
Guests of Honour
Deputy Prime Minister Bill English, former West Bengal Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi (grandson of Mahatma Gandhi and C Rajagopalachari, the first Governor General of Independent India), Leader of the Opposition David Shearer, Indian High Commissioner Avanindra Kumar Pandey, BNZ Chairman John Waller, BNZ Partners Director Anthony Healy will be among our Guests of Honour.
A number of former Ministers, Members of Parliament and other dignitaries will also attend the Business Awards ceremony.
Major commercial banks, major audit and consultancy firms, investment companies, large, medium and small businesses, franchisees of major brands and others have booked corporate tables, enhancing the value of the Awards Night.
Distinguished Administrator
Mr Gandhi, began his illustrious career as an officer of the Indian Administrative Service, later became a diplomat, representing India as the High Commissioner in South Africa, Lesotho and Sri Lanka and Ambassador to Norway, with concurrent accreditation to a number of other countries.
He also served as the Secretary to the Vice-President of India and later as the Secretary to the President of India.
He was the Governor of West Bengal from 2004 to 2009. He also held the additional charge as the Governor of Bihar in 2006.
He has written a number of books including, ‘Gandhi and South Africa.’
Mr Gandhi is currently Chairman of the Shimla based Indian Institute of Advanced Study, established by the Indian Government to ‘provide opportunities for such meeting of minds and commerce of ideas as are likely to extend horizons of knowledge and wisdom and add new dimensions to our life and thought.’

Councillor Christine Fletcher, former minister in the Central Government and former Mayor of Auckland, will be the Master of Ceremonies.
Indian cuisine
We have commissioned a number of professional organisations to invest their expertise and experience to ensure that the guests at the Awards Night receive the best of their products and services and promote an environment that spell class and uniqueness of the annual ceremony.
Among them are the management of the Sky City Convention Centre, Spy Glass, Display Ways and others.
Sky City Executive Chef Paul Doyle and his team have created a Special Indian Menu not only to represent the best of Indian cuisine that finds favour with people of all ethnicities, tastes and style, but also to reflect the main purpose of the event, namely to celebrate the success of everything that is Indian.
Audio Visual experts Spy Glass will provide an increasing array of services to match the growing sophistication and needs of the event.
The Company has a variety of equipment that range from state-of-the-art sound and light systems, live projection of the programme on large television screens for easy viewing by guests and a host of other services.
Mt Wellington based Display Ways Limited, with proven expertise in creating an extensive range of display equipment and products will provide exhibition booths to our Sponsoring companies.
The standard booths, with electrical fittings and basic furniture would enable our sponsors to showcase their products and services.
Entertainers
The entertainment segment would include Indian Classical Fusion dances by Ratna Venkat, Bollywood dances by V4U Entertainments Limited and a live band comprising Joseph Alexander (Alex), Joscel Alexander, Hemant Thaker, James Fromont and Everard Fernandes.
Interfaith Meeting
Mr Gandhi will be the Guest Speaker at the Mother Teresa Interfaith Meeting to be held on Sunday, November 18, 2012 at 3 pm at the Christ the King Church (260 Richardson Road) in Mt Roskill in Auckland (read related story in this Section).
