With an increasing number of event organisers (mostly Bollywood and programmes promoting local singing and dancing talent) knocking on the doors of commercial establishments for sponsorship with monetary support, businesses are becoming not only selective and even restrictive on the amount allocated.
The difficult economic situation and the accompanying tight cash flow have made the job of event organisers more difficult in recent years.
However, projects and programmes that are aimed at recognising businesses, community and sports organisations for excellence could be assured of continued support, says Richard Lal, Managing Director, Hose & Fittings New Zealand, based in Auckland.
His company is the Sponsor of the ‘Best Indian Rugby Player of the Year’ category of the Indian Newslink Indian Sports Awards 2012.
“I am very careful regarding sponsorship but I have confidence in Indian Newslink which has consistently proved its uncompromising stand for quality, integrity and returning value for sponsors and advertisers,” he said.
Proven record
Mr Lal said the concept of the Sports Awards impressed him.
“I believe that need to recognise and reward sports achievers in the Indian community are long overdue. I am sure the Awards will grow from strength to strength year after year and evince wider interest of New Zealanders,” he said.
Mr Lal said the newspaper had scored high with the launch of the Indian Newslink Indian Business Awards in 2008, which has grown bigger and better year after year.
“These Awards have become a benchmark for recognising success and growth of Indian businesses in the country and the Awards Night held every year is the most significant business event. I have already reserved a table to entertain my business associates and enhance commercial contacts at the Indian Newslink Indian Business Awards 2012 (on November 19, 2012 at Sky City Convention Centre),” he said.
He said he felt reassured of the robust judging process of the Sports Awards, which would be similar to the well-established procedure for Business Awards.
As reported in our recent issues, a panel of judges, independent of this newspaper, ownership and management, will judge the entries received in the various categories of the Sports Awards and that their decision will be final.
Neither Indian Newslink nor the judges will entertain any correspondence in this connection.
Mr Lal said that Rugby was gaining popularity among the members of the Indian community, with an increasing number of youngsters seen at the playing fields.
“I am pleasantly surprised to learn that a number of our young men are participating in Rugby,” he said.
A good medium for business promotion
Rohit Anand, Managing Director of the Auckland based Windoors New Zealand Limited said he has been using Indian Newslink for several years and that the results have always been encouraging and profitable.
“I am a follower of various sports and therefore consider the Awards programme as super idea. With so many categories, I am sure that the Scheme will motivate our achievers to improve their performance,” he said.
His Company is the Sponsor of the ‘Best Golfer of the Year’ Category.
“I am sure there is a need to promote Golf among the members of the Indian community, especially our boys. We are happy to sponsor this category. Any form of sports is truly challenging and I look forward to improved performance of our men, women and youth,” Mr Anand said.
He said he was looking forward to the Awards Presentation Night.
