Auckland housing crisis linked to immigration

Auckland, Saturday, June 18, 2016

The housing crisis is linked to record immigration, Employers and Manufacturers Association Chief Executive Kim Campbell told ‘The Nation’ Programme on TV3 this morning.

New Zealand First Leader Winston Peters said that Mr Campbell was talking common sense when he said, ‘join the dots.’ He is stating the obvious along with a growing number of New Zealanders who understand the mismatch of massive immigration numbers, now over 125,000, and 69,000 net, and the need for a home.

“This is exactly what New Zealand First has been telling the country but the PM refuses to listen. High immigration has long been a tipping factor in the housing crisis – there’s just not enough houses and now we have extremes of overvalued houses and unaffordability at one end and people living in garages and cars at the other. The government needs to join the dots, and urgently,” Mr Peters said.
