A young grieving nurse needs help, please Givealittle

Members of the Indian community have appealed to New Zealanders to donate money to help a family that has recently been struck by tragedy.

Solomon Kingsly Charles, a 36-year-old Health Care Assistant reportedly died of a heart attack in the living room of his Hastings home on Monday, April 1, 2024.

His wife, Evangeline Maria Richard, a Registered Nurse, tried to revive him with Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and other methods. A while later, the Ambulance arrived Solomon was pronounced dead. The cause of his death was reportedly due to Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular disease, commonly interpreted as a heart attack.

About the Young Family

Solomon was a graduate of Commerce (B.Com) and a postgraduate in Business Administration (MBA), while Evangeline, a qualified and registered nurse, worked in Singapore earlier. They married in 2014 and migrated to New Zealand in 2022 in pursuit of a better life. Both are employees of Waiapu House Lifecare and Village in Hastings.

Following the completion of formalities and approval of the Indian High Commission in Wellington, the body will be taken to Chennai, where the Final Rites and Burial Service will be held at the CSI Church, Pammal Cemetery.

Fredric Doss, Haemodialysis Educator & Professional Leader (Renal Physiology at Auckland Hospital), Lecturer & Course Coordinator at the Auckland University of Technology and Former Chairman of the New Zealand and Australia Board of Dialysis Practice said that a Special Givealittle Page has been established to receive cash donations in aid of the grieving family.

“We are trying to collect as much as possible to help Evangeline and her family. She and her deceased husband come from a modest economic background and hence we hope that people will donate generously. Good-hearted people are helping Evangeline as she copes with the harsh reality,” he said.
