The Waitemata District Health Board will introduce discounted parking tickets for people who frequently visit patients in hospital, after a backlash against high parking prices.
The $20 cost to park at the DHB’s hospitals for the day has drawn strong criticism from community groups.
Board chair Judy McGregor said that the new ticket would be valid for one week and cover $50 worth of parking, helping to cover the cost incurred by people visiting patients for extended periods.
“Normally entry and exit in a car under these circumstances in seven days – if you’re going in and out multiple times – is going to cost $140,” she said.
The tickets will be available next month.
