Hamilton’s beloved city attraction, Hamilton Gardens, is set to unveil a new chapter in its storied history with the opening of the Gallagher Visitor Centre on September 18, 2024.

This new development comes as part of a 15-year naming partnership with Gallagher, the Hamilton-headquartered and globally recognised technology firm. The Gallagher Visitor Centre will serve as the centrepiece of the $12 million entry precinct upgrade, designed to enhance the first impression for visitors to this award-winning destination.

Hamilton City Council Deputy Chief Executive, Sean Murray, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership. “Gallagher is an international leader, and their commitment to making a positive impact both locally and globally makes them an ideal partner for this project. We are privileged to have their support as we enter this new era for Hamilton Gardens.”

Gallagher’s Continued Commitment

Kahl Betham, Chief Executive Officer of Gallagher said, “Gallagher’s partnership with Hamilton Gardens is not just a business deal. It is a continuation of their longstanding dedication to supporting community projects across the city. Our discussions to partner on this new era for the Gardens began several years ago, and now we are delighted to see the project nearing completion,” Mr Betham said.

He emphasised the importance of the partnership in enhancing the Gardens’ visitor experience while helping to reduce costs through sponsorship. “The Gallagher Visitor Centre will be a spectacular focal point for the 50 hectares of gardens and parklands, inspired by places around the world. Hamilton Gardens is a cherished destination for many—whether for inspiration, creativity, or simply spending time with loved ones. This exciting development will enrich the experience for visitors from across New Zealand and beyond.”

Mr Betham also highlighted the broader impact of such initiatives, noting that “Hamilton is a brilliant place to live in and visit. We are pleased to see a range of initiatives across the city contributing to its vibrancy.”

Enhancements to Hamilton Gardens

The entry precinct upgrade at Hamilton Gardens, of which the Gallagher Visitor Centre is a key part, includes several enhancements designed to improve the overall visitor experience. These upgrades feature improvements to the Hamilton Gardens Café, the introduction of new retail space, and the creation of a park-like setting with additional seating and beautifully landscaped grounds. The Gallagher Visitor Centre itself will play a crucial role in efficiently managing visitor flow, enhancing accessibility, and ensuring visitor comfort and security.

As Hamilton Gardens prepares to welcome visitors to this new and improved entry precinct, the partnership with Gallagher stands as a testament to the power of collaboration between community-minded businesses and local attractions, ensuring that the Gardens continue to inspire and delight for generations to come.

Members of the public have expressed their excitement about the upcoming changes. Local resident Lisa Taylor shared her thoughts: “Hamilton Gardens is one of my favourite places in the city, and I am thrilled to see it getting this level of support from a company like Gallagher. The new visitor centre sounds like it is going to make an already amazing place even better.”

Another resident, Pooja Patel, echoed this sentiment, saying, “It is great to see local businesses like Gallagher investing back into the community. I am really looking forward to visiting the new Gallagher Visitor Centre once it opens. It is wonderful to see Hamilton continuing to grow and improve.”
