Young minds have untapped potential and a world full of opportunities to explore. They can surprise the world with their talent and commitment to make their dreams come true.
One such story of youth success is Sancy Prabhakar, a teenager who is an inspiration to many.
After participating in Sydney on June 11, 2023, as a singing contestant for the show “Sur Samrat- Bollywood’s Voice of Oceania” which is an international platform showcasing young talent across New Zealand, Australia and Fiji among other countries, Sancy was recognised by judges for her unique voice and immense talent. She was applauded for her unique voice, songwriting abilities, and her style of singing.
Songwriter and Artist
Sancy has continued her passion for writing and has written over 150 songs so far. Her song “Good Girl” has been well-received by young listeners and teenagers. The song talks about how many teenagers feel and addresses the topic of mental health, isolation and the pressure of fitting in and fulfilling the expectations that are thrust upon them.
Sancy was born in New Delhi and migrated to New Zealand when she was only five years old. Her father Pawan Prabhakar comes from a musical background, her grandfather was an amazing singer, and her mother Shweta is a writer and professional dancer. She has inherited her dancing from her mum and often participates in dance events throughout New Zealand. Sancy is also a passionate cricket player and has been playing cricket for the past nine years. She appears in local cricket matches and tournaments. Sancy says that she enjoys what she does but writing is her biggest passion. Sancy has been writing since the age of five. She is now in year 11 and wants to study hard to be academically strong while pursuing her dreams at the same time.
Her mother is a talented writer, an elegant dancer and the founder of Sanskriti Dance Academy in Auckland. She said, “Sancy is an old soul, very mature for her age. She appreciates people around her and helps them very often. She often donates some money towards animal welfare organizations and NGOs with her own money. She is a great companion, teacher, and listener to her parents and her friends.”
A young Author
Sancy is also a talented young author, who surprised the world with her first book “Pea Boy” which she had written at the age of nine. This book was a great success. Sancy’s book Pea Boy was greatly appreciated by renowned author Jeff Kenny and Ex-Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern. She is a recipient of several awards from the community. Sancy is considered one of New Zealand’s youngest Authors.
Ms Prabhakar said, “Sancy has been a great thinker and storyteller from a very young age. As her family, we have listened to her stories with great excitement and joy. She has taken charge of her dreams and it is great to see that as a parent.”
While a shy girl in everyday life who takes time to open up, Sancy has an unmissable presence when she is on the stage. It is truly a great motivation for all young people to have success stories like Sancy Prabhakar to be broadcasted and shared.
