ACG Sunderland students Tirth Thakar and Anurag Nadgir were among the best mathematical brains of Auckland at a contest held recently.
ASB Stadium in Kohimarama was the venue for the ‘Mathex Competition’ which brought together students from several Auckland based schools to put their mathematical prowess to a rigorous test.
“Getting to use your subject in a way that is different from the classroom cements learning, and pushes students’ knowledge. Through ‘Mathex,’ students improve not only their mathematical skills, but also their abilities such as lateral thinking, problem solving and teamwork,” he said.
Anurag said, “Tirth and I are driven to succeed. We enjoy mathematics and work hard to beat each other. The opportunity to compete against the best mathematical teams in Auckland motivated me to enter the competition.”
Mathematics teacher Paul Devereux described the pair as ‘ACG Sunderland’s top Year 10 Mathematics students.
“Both of them are in an extended Mathematics group, which will see them appear in Cambridge International IGCSE Mathematics examination a year early,” he said.
