As a part of their objective to recognise the achievements of young players who were finalists in a number of categories, the independent panel of judges of the Indian Newslink Indian Sports Awards 2012 decided to present ‘Young Achievers Award’ as Certificates to two young persons.
They were:
Karan Nalam (Male), Finalist in the ‘Under 21 Cricket Player of the Year’ and the ‘Best Golfer of the Year’ categories
Priyena Prasad (Female) Finalist in the ‘Best Netballer of the Year’ category.
Judges Comment:
Karan Nalam has been a member of Cornwall Cricket Club since 2005.
He began as a five-year-old in Year 1. Since then, he has stood out amongst his cricketing pairs as one of the top cricketers in his year group. He has come through the Representative Cricket ranks to play for his district in the Central Primary School Boys Development 1 team.
Karan has racked up an impressive selection of awards over his years at Cornwall. They include Batsman of the year (2005, 2007 and 2009), Bowler of the Year (2006 and 2008) and Most Valued Player for Cornwall Year 6 Rep Team (2010).
Karan is also a member of his School’s First) XI (Kings Prep).

The Epsom Girls Grammar Senior A player trialed and was selected for the ‘Auckland Netball Under 17 High Performance Academy’ this year.
She was also selected to be a part of ‘New Zealand Netball’s ID day for ‘Top Under 17 Players’ in the Auckland Region.
In 2011, Priyena represented the unbeaten ‘Auckland Under 15’ team that won the Regional Tournament. She was also selected for the ‘Auckland Under 15 High Performance Academy.’
In 2010, Priyena captained an Auckland Year 9 team to play against an Australian selection.
