The Auckland Indian Association is conducting workshops to encourage people to lead a healthy lifestyle and to improve their physical fitness.
Called, ‘HOPE,’ an acronym for Healthy Option, Positive Eating), the first of these workshops was held at the Mahatma Gandhi Centre on July 10, followed by the second programme on July 11.
The next two workshops will be held on July 17 and 18 at 7 pm.
The Association’s Health & Finance Committee Chairperson Dhiru Patel said that the Workshops aimed to promote awareness on the need to maintain a balanced diet, the quantity and type of food that people should consume without sacrificing taste and giving up exercise.
“The Workshops comprise four sessions each, dealing with minor changes to favourite foods for better health, culture value and generational patterns, issues relating to diabetes and creating a family plan for healthy living and eating,” Mr Patel said.
He said other forms of exercises are held on different days and times.
These include Boolyrobix (Saturdays from 730 am to 830 am); Pilates (Mondays 630 pm to 715 pm, with Zumba or Yoga on the last Monday of the month); Pump (Thursdays from 630 pm to 730 pm); Walking (most Sundays from 8 am to 930 am at Cornwall Park, One Tree Hill); Long Walks (First Sunday of the month at 830 am).
“We plan to introduce tramping and cycling, for which we seek dedicated volunteers,” Mr Patel said.
He said as a part of the India Independence Day celebrations, the Association will conduct a ‘Medical Health Expo’ on August 15.
“As well as workshops and speeches by specialists, there will be health-relates stalls and a cultural programme,” he said.
